Beatle festival lands in Louisville Beatle fans will descend on Louisville over the Memorial Day weekend for the largest U.S. festival celebrating the band that started the British Invasion on American radio stations and revolutionized rock 'n' roll in the mid '60s. The annual "Abbey Road on the River" festival, featuring about 40 bands from around the world, takes place May 27-29 on four outdoor and two indoor stages. About half of the bands dress and play like the Fab Four while the others perform interpretations in styles ranging from blues to classical. The festival features food, art, films, band-related merchandise and speakers, including George Harrison's sister, Beatle author and historian Bruce Spizer and Bill Bernstein, Paul McCartney's official photographer. The event, held in Cleveland the past three years, is modeled after a weeklong festival that has been held in Liverpool, England, for more than 20 years.
