For those who were following and voting... THEY DID IT! The Sun Kings won KFOX-FM 2008 Last Band Standing contest. Way to go guys!

DAN - Louisville KENTUCKY, United States November 18, 2008 1:45pm
Just read in the Courier-Journal the Mayor announced lots of cutbacks because they are short 20 million.

"Metro Mayor Jerry Abramson has imposed a hiring freeze and restricted spending by metro agencies.

By early next month, metro officials will announce a plan to balance the budget that could include employee furloughs and layoffs."

Sure hope our favorite fest is not affected
Editor: Well, they cannot cut music and lyrics from Beatles songs, can they? But, hey, what is going on in Louisville is going on in every city and neighborhood and business in America. So wadda gonna do, live or let die?

Lori - Cleves, Ohio, United States November 18, 2008 10:22am

Harold - Hamilton, Ohio, United States November 17, 2008 11:06pm
Will really miss my buddies from Jukebox, the ultimate Beatles party band. Will also miss Jim Martin's show. Got to talk to Peter Conrad at the benefit on the 7th, what a nice guy. Anyway I told him my favorite band at AROTR was the one I was listening to at the time. I truly believe this. My point being I will miss some and find some AROTR will always be great.
Want to hear some Who in 09, my 2nd favorite band.
Editor: Happy to report that AROTR Hall of Famers All You Need Is Love will be presenting and performing the 40th anniversary of TOMMY! It will likely be on Friday night, May 22. Strings, Horns, and a full blast R & R show, the way only AYNIL can do

Jim Ringo Martin - Seattle, United States November 17, 2008 2:48pm
Hello AROTR family. Just a note to announce the sad news the Jim Ringo Martin All Starr band/British Export will not be returning to AROTR in 2009. This will be the first year I will miss AROTR. I have relocated to Seattle, and sadly, there is no budget at this time to travel to Louisville. I am currently enjoying performing with the Fab Four Mania show, at the Riviera in Las Vegas, with our good friend Gavin Pring, and another ex-British Export member, Frank Canino. I will miss you all, and I know AROTR 2009 will still kick ass, Have fun, one and all.

Lindsay G. - Simi Valley, California, United States November 15, 2008 10:59pm
I am really looking forward to the event next year! This will be my first time attending... scored the trip from my parents as a college graduation gift.

Can't wait to see all of the different bands and events, especially the Concert For George (he's my fave)... should be something I will never forget.

Sad news...

Mitch Mitchell, who played drums with Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and on Are You Experienced? Electric Ladyland and Axis: Bold As Love died Wednesday.

In addition to Hendrix, he was also a session drummer with Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Keith Richards and Muddy Waters.

Rob from Cincinnati - Cincinnati, OH, United States November 14, 2008 3:52pm
From Revolver (as requested by Mike)

For Sarah, you will be missed.

She said, She said

She said,
"I know what it's like to shoot wolves dead."
"I know what it's like to wear plaid."
And she making it sure John'll never be Pres.

She said,
"I stopped the bridge to no-where."
I said, "No, No, No, you're wrong"

"The bill was dead."
"When you chose against it."
"Before that you were for it."

I said,
"I'm afraid you're a bimbo".
"I don't think you're ready-to-lead".
And, you're making it sure John'll never be Pres.

-rob

PS: Sorry about the Bimbo part. I know it sounds sexist, but lyric-writin' is hard work.

Hello Hello! Cannot wait till next AROTR! Love to all. STEPHANIE please call me ASAP. Got to make arrangements for the haul! Waiting to hear final lineup. Bring back the power trio from England. They got the right "TOUCH"! wink Peace & Love to Gary, Staff, friends and fans

mike - monroe, mich., United States November 12, 2008 8:00pm
Rob... Great to hear from you again and again and again and again and again, etc. However, if you want a song, I would refer you to cut one on Relvover. That being said, regardless of my beliefs, the man is our president and I support him and wish him well. We'll see what happens in the future and I truely hope things will be better for all of us. The election is over, everyone, let's get back to the Beatles and looking forward to May, 2009!!!!

Melissa - Illinois, United States November 12, 2008 4:04pm
Is Jukebox playing in 2009? I thought I saw them a few weeks ago, but now they are not listed on the band page. I sure hope so, it wouldn't be the same without them!
Editor: they are not; they informed us recently that they are pursuing other opportunities at home that weekend. I think everyone needs to always recognize that bands break up, members join other bands, many have demands from their jobs, pressures at home like you, financial issues, and on and on and on. I am you as you are me!. So, Abbey Road on the River is the same great event every year, not because of only this one or that one, but because of the music of the Beatles interpreted so brilliantly by so many different artists and musicians. Sorry to disappoint you Melissa, but bands may come and go, but the music lives on. We just announced the Backwards!!!!!!!!!!, the best tribute band in all of Europe

David - Columbus, OH, United States November 11, 2008 3:00pm
Johnny - Everyone in our group loved your rendition of Stairway to Heaven. I would encourage you to do similar to that other perennial song request - Freebird.
Look forward to seeing you guys at AROTR in May.

Kelly - Cleveland, United States November 11, 2008 8:48am
hey!
this has probably already been mentioned before but my previous arotr plans just got canceled and im trying to figure out a cheaper way so that i can still go.

does anyone know of any other hotels surrounding the festival? and if so how far they are from arotr.(walking distance hopefully?)
thanks for any help!ive been to arotr since it began in cleveland and it would kill me not to make it this year!
editor: there is a comfort inn, fairfield suites, hampton inn..all only a few blocks away..there are always $99 rooms to be had, even cheaper, if you can drive a mile or 2

msurpr - vernon ny, United States November 11, 2008 12:41am
there is a beatle tribute in ny called abbey road that im sure would win sound alike contest

johnny - louisville ky, United States November 10, 2008 7:30pm
Gary,

We had a great time at the Executive Abbey Road benefit...sure do appreciate being invited to help such a worthwhile cause. Its always a good time playing Beatles music around such appreciative people.

To David from Columbus...I'm glad you enjoyed our Stairway rendition...I really wasnt sure how it would go over!

misty - louisville ky, United States November 10, 2008 10:24am
thanks again, gary and staff, for a WONDERFUL concert event on friday!

David - Columbus, OH, United States November 10, 2008 10:22am
The benefit show was fantastic. I would be thrilled to see this become an annual event as well. I hope it was as successsful for St. Joseph's as was wanted. The Beatled out version of Stairway to Heaven was a highlight for me.

Harold - Hamilton, Ohio, United States November 9, 2008 6:05pm
I think Rob's lyrics should be an option in the Oh Darling sing along contest. Also someone out there should record it, with Rob's permission of course. I would but my playing stinks and my singing is worse. Good job Rob.

Sandy - Batesville, IN, United States November 9, 2008 11:56am
We had such a wonderful time at the benefit concert on Friday night! The bands were fantastic and the crowd was full of energy. Hope it becomes a yearly event. Kudos, Gary. You've done it again! Can't wait for May!

Dan - Louisville, United Kingdom November 9, 2008 9:40am
I went to both events Friday night..Louisville is weird alright, two Beatles events the same night. 1964 was good, but dreadfully old, like a wax museum. Left after 30 minutes and came back to Exec Inn. Abbey Road On The River, as always, just does it better; they know how to make it fun. I sure hope the Fall event is annual. So happy

Rob from Cincinnati - Cincinnati, OH, United States November 8, 2008 6:38pm
The benefit rocked. The bands were great, the turn-out was great, and the crowd was great.

Ben from Cincinnati even got to help with the prize drawings. Lauren from Cincinnai had an excellent time dancing. Melinda from Cincinnati even danced.

The whole family can't wait for May to come.

First Entry in Rob from Cincinnati's "O! Bama" lyrics contest...

"O! Bama"

O! Bama, we believe you.
You'll never do us no harm.
We believe you when you tell us.
You'll never increase our tax.

O! Bama, we need some health care.
We know we don't have to fear.
We believe you when you tell us.
We're going to get some this year.

When they told us.
You were a Muslim.

Well you know I nearly broke down and cried.

When they told us.
You would redistribute our wealth.

Well you know, I nearly fell down and died.

O! Bama, if you tax me.
I'll never make a quarter mill(ion).

We believe you when you tell us
You'll never do us no harm.

...Ok, now it's time for you to create your own "O! Bama" lyrics.

The winner will receive a glow stick.

Harold from Hamilton - Hamilton, Ohio, United States November 8, 2008 6:22pm
Had a blast at the benefit last night. Didn't get there untill 8 but still got more than our moneys worth!!! Abbey Rod live was awesome, Peter Conrad is amazing and SSG rocked the roof off! Got a personalized guitar pick from my buddy Matt in SSG. I came home and tried it and I still can't play like him. The Disco party that some of us crashed afterwards was a unique and fun way to end the evening, the people therer were great. Thanks again Gary, can't wait till May.

Allen - Louisville, kentucky, United States November 8, 2008 3:23am
Just want to say that the benefit event was fantastic. Very well done by all, and all of the bands outdid themselfs. The room was great, and I hope this will become an annual event. At $12 a ticket I believe we got more than our moneys worth. Thanks for a great time. Allen

Susan Beals - Washington State, United States November 7, 2008 1:08am

Rob from Cincinnati - Cincinnati, OH, United States November 5, 2008 7:02am
My staff and I would also like to congratulate President-Elect Obama.

In addition, we would like to acknowledge and thank John McCain for his years of service to this country. Even though, we did not always agree with him, we always felt than Senator McCain did what he thought was best for the country.

I am personally happy that we can now disagree with the goverment without being labeled un-American. Under King George Bush, the country had become a bit scary. Good-bye and good ridance to those guys.

See you on Friday for the benefit.

PS: I guess I don't have to move to Canada now. Hurray!

Looking forward to Friday night. Whatever our politics let's come together and Rock it Out!

Dear AROTR Friends and Fans
We are so grateful and touched by all of the good wishes extended to our Tommy for his recovery.

This is very good news...
We are hoping...
Again, thank you.
Love to you all....

There's nothing wrong with liberal philosophies and supporting that philosophy, however, you might want to re-think any support for Barack Obama. He's not what he pretends to be. He's not liberal, he's socialist. Think Hugo Chavez. His minions attempt to shut everyone up. They don't believe in free speech. Please read the constitution. If you vote Obama, it may be a thing of the past.

The problem is that the everyday people DO put the "common good above self-interest", but the people holding the power don't care about the common good of the country or its everyday people.

Dean - Lakeside Park, KY, United States October 27, 2008 4:45pm
I was for Obama till his campaign called Bill Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro racists last summer. Then it was time for me to get off that bus. But there is still time for me to get back on. I'll probably make my decision when I walk in the voting booth.

Hey Ben and Ramona,
Thanks for the shout out! I wish you guys could be at the show on the 8th. We'll miss you. It's always fun to share the stage with Jim "Ringo" and my buddy JP Lynch. Hope to see you again soon. It would be a nice little slice of AROTR.

Rob from Cincinnati - Cincinnati, OH, United States October 26, 2008 4:16pm
After considerable thought and reflection, I have authorized my staff to confirm that I, Rob from Cincinnati, will officially endorse Barack Obama.

Here is one of the funniest things I have seen this election cycle (it's from the Daily Show)...

Daily Show

Political Office - Louisville, Cleveland, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, United States October 26, 2008 11:43am
Stating that:

"If current generations of Americans are ever to witness a time when hope must prevail over fear, when common good must be placed above self-interest and when America must respond to its highest values and reject its most deeply rooted prejudices, surely this is that moment.....and, Some elections are far more important than others. This is one that America needs to get right. Barack Obama is an inspiring choice for president..

Our title sponsor,The Courier-Journal today endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for President. While we profess neutrality in these matters, we have always admired the wisdom of The Courier-Journal. After all, they also endorsed Abbey Road On The River. Smart group on Broadway and 5th.

Courier-Journal Endorses Barack Obama for President of The United States

dear rob from cincinnati,

"hair" was the first theater production i enjoyed in cincy, in the schubert...it was fun and jangly and conroversial and made EVERYbody think. the music cemented everyone's suspicions about our government, the war in vietnam, and the wars going on amongst ourselves. i just bought the movie (travesty but it's is still the show) and listen to it when i need a dose of reality in the good old way. have a great day!

Like MissRocknroll1, I am also very excited to see Sophia and the rest of the Greek Beats coming back to AROTR.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I'm surprised that I have never heard a song from or mention of the musical "Hair" at the summer of love at AROTR. "Hair" opened on broadway in 1968 and has several excellent songs.

I was a bit young when the original show was playing. However, I did see it when it was on the road several years later. It was sort of embarassing since I was about 10 or 11 when my mom took me to it. Some of the people from the show had come to our church and sang a couple of the songs so my mom took me (never imagining that there was a full frontal nudity scene). It was ackward when the naked people popped out of the parachute at the end of the first act. I don't think my mom and I discussed this at intermission.

Anyway, does anyone else like the music from "Hair" or was this viewed as a sell-out of the generation on the part of the producers?

-rob

PS: If you are in Ohio, vote early (and often). Your election boards have special hours to make it easy to vote. See their web sites for details. Once you Barack, you never go back.

I also would like to send a wish for a 'fabulous' life together "Michelle & Steve"....forever and ever!! My son got married one week ago today on one of the most beautiful Autumn days in New England. He and his beautiful bride danced to "Grow Old With Me" sung by the one and only...most amazing Mr. Hal Bruce!!!!!!...and then everybody danced to "IMAGINE" by the most talented Tim Piper!!!!!
I send my love to all my Beatle Family...here, there and everywhere....and I am counting the days until I can hear the beautiful sound of Sophia's voice once again at AROTR!!!!! singing..."LET IT BE"!!!!! GO RED SOX!!!!!!

Jim Ringo Martin - Chicago, United Kingdom October 19, 2008 10:51am
Note to Ben: You should have clarified we DID indeed dance together, but Ramona and Paula were dancing too, as our partners(not that there's anything wrong with it).

Note to AROTR family:

I do hope there will be no fall out with the rescent poor PR moves on the real Ringo's part. I would hope the Jim Ringo Allstar band would still have the awesome turnout I've had the pleasure of enjoying these past 4 years.

And
